Breaking down and conquering panic attacks
By Hannah Haslett
One of the most common signs of having anxiety is having panic attacks. First, we need to determine what is a panic attack.
The causes of panic attacks can range from a variety of things. When I have panic attacks, a lot of the time I can’t pinpoint one particular thought that led to that panic attack and that’s ok. It’s not the same for everyone.
The Google definition of a panic attack is “a sudden feeling of acute and disabling anxiety.” To me, This definition is very vague. As someone who has had panic attacks, they feel like so much more than that. To me, a panic attack is a physical reaction of complete helplessness that occurs when your mind becomes overwhelmed.
Many people describe panic attacks as feeling like they are dying. This is NOT what is happening. This feeling comes from your mind thinking the absolute worst because of what your body is experiencing. It’s important to be aware of the signs and know how to talk yourself out of a panic attack and lessen the symptoms.
The podcast “Disordered” found a different way to describe a panic attack in a way that doesn’t seem as scary.
Remind yourself that you are not alone and it’s important to find ways to help yourself when you are in situations that seem to be helpless.

Strong ending!
