I know that I have anxiety, but how do I fix it?

By Hannah Haslett

Unfortunately, there is not a “cure” for anxiety. Some of us think sleep can be a cure for everything. Although I wish that was the case, there are other ways to help ease your anxiety.

Coping mechanisms are one of the most beneficial things that you can learn to help calm your worries. Coping mechanisms are essentially different ways that you can trick your mind into becoming more relaxed. It’s hard for me to wrap my head around this because I hate the feeling of being behind but sometimes it’s necessary to take a break. We have to remember that our mental health comes first. Other strategies to help you cope might be to get a journal, take a walk outside, meditate, take deep breaths, or hang out with friends. Getting a healthy amount of sleep is also important. But that doesn't mean you should nap all day.

I mentioned this in my last post, but it’s all about finding what’s right and what works best for you. One piece of advice that I received that I carry with me wherever I go is to take everything “one step at a time.” I find myself getting very easily overwhelmed with homework, work, personal tasks, and time management. In these cases when I take the time to break down everything I need to do and take on one task at a time, it becomes less overwhelming.

If you are interested in learning more about ways to help your anxiety, I recommend exploring different podcasts, Instagram accounts, or websites that you think can help you. It’s all about finding resources and people that can help you.

If you enjoy podcasts like I do, here is one that I think is very beneficial to listen to. It includes episodes that range from techniques to help your anxiety, exercising, and simply answering questions. There are tons of resources out there for you to use, this is just one that I enjoy.

  2. Did you mean to link to a podcast in your last paragraph? Am I missing it?
